Red-tailed hawks have long been a favorite of mine. I love their scream, love how they soar on the breeze, and especially love their many color phases. They are fairly common and seen sitting atop power poles, trees and roadside fence posts where they sit quietly watching for prey. Whenever I see one I stop and take a photo because their variable color phases fascinate me and can sometimes make identifying them a challenge. Despite having taken hundreds of photos I have not painted them very often, but recently decided it was time to start. This is the first of what I hope will be many more.
