Last December while participating in a Christmas Bird Count I stopped at a local pond looking for a Virginia Rail that was known to hang out there. The best way to locate them is to play an "oinking" call and they usually answer. I was not able to get one to respond, but instead this curious marsh wren appeared. It spent several minutes flitting about the cattails and playing hide and seek with me. Why it was drawn to the rail call I'll never know, but it's curiosity and postures kept me amused and gave me plenty of reference photos for this painting.
