I spend a lot of time in all seasons driving the back roads near where I live. In the early spring and summer I often find meadowlarks singing from atop a fence post, their beautiful songs carrying across the fields for great distances. I can usually locate them by ear long before I actually see the bird. For this painting I chose to include some wild sunflowers to carry that bright yellow color of the bird throughout the painting. As I look at this painting I can clearly hear the meadowlarks summer song in my mind.
