American kestrels are some of my favorite raptors and whenever I see one I feel compelled to try and snap a few photos. Usually they don't sit still for long, but it was a chilly winter morning when I came across this female. She had her feathers fluffed up to help keep her warm and I loved the backlighting highlighting her puffy shape.
