On a trip through the Blue Mountains of Washington state this past winter we drove through a snowy area with fog and mist rising. As we rounded a bend in the road we saw a young bald eagle perched in a dead pine tree. We were able to pull over and I snapped a few photos as the bird flew off. I loved the background of snowy, misty pine trees and the textures of the dead pine tree with moss hanging down from the bare branches. I chose to paint the eagle as an adult as they are more easily recognizable than a first year bald eagle with it's mottled looking plumage, but the rest is true to the scene I saw.
