A few years ago I was camping in the woods of northern Idaho. We left a light on outside our trailer overnight and in the morning there was this large moth on the trailer window. I had never seen one like it before. With it's wings closed it looked like a dried leaf and when I examined it closer it flew to a nearby pine tree where it revealed the startling "eyes" and the pretty pink on the hindwings. I took several photos and left it be. Back home I was able to identify it as a blinded sphinx moth because the big blue eye spots have no pupil, thus appearing blind.
